Creating a community connection with one of London’s most iconic buildings.

#ShardLights are live! We’re proud to see six months of planning culminate in the launch of a stunning festive light display this week.

We’ve been working with the Real Estate Management (REM) team, who are the asset managers of The Shard, to create a community connection with the iconic building by developing a story behind this year’s switch-on which involved local Bermondsey school children helping design the light show.

Switched-on aired live on BBC London.

 

The three sequences displayed every half hour throughout December evenings reflect the present, Santa’s hat and tree designs created by the schoolchildren, bringing a new twist to the inspiring visual display lighting up the capital from Western Europe’s tallest building.

To mark the switch-on, we worked with BBC London and Blue Peter to create broadcast features including interviews with the schoolchildren, live shots of the switch-on and some stunning helicopter footage. Our follow-up media sell-in has ensured stand out visual coverage in The Times, City AM and Evening Standard.

Shard Lights ran until 30th December with a special finale on the evening of 31st to celebrate the New Year, illuminating the city in white as Big Ben signalled the start of 2020, then emulating London’s renowned firework display in a unique light show.
